Once upon a time in a far away land called Illinois, there was a farm. On that farm they had a cat and this cat decided to have a litter of kittens in an old rusted out junk car. When the young girl of the family found the kitten shortly after they where born, the momma cat decided it was best to move them. The young girl watched the momma cat move them all but she never came back to get the last one. The young girl took the two week old kitten up to the barn and put her in the nest with the rest of the litter. Later that day she was outside playing when she heard the cries of a kitten, so she went to see what all the fussing was about. She found the tiny kitten had been moved out of the nest and put in the corn away from her litter mates and momma. She was the runt of the litter and wasn’t wanted.
Now the lady of the house worked outside the home as did the man of the house and the three children all went to school, so that meant the tiny small kitten was going to die. The lady of the house called her friend and the friend called her daughter…..ME. I said “yes, I will take her I am on my way right now”!! My son Keith and I jumped in the car and headed out to the country. She was the smallest black and grey tabby I have ever seen and I wasn’t sure she was even going to make it.
Keith and I spent the next several weeks taking turns getting up and feeding, cleaning and taking care of her. She began to get healthy and her will to live got stronger every day. She slept in a cat bed on a fuzzy blanket with a heating pad under it for a very long time. At the time we had two male cats and even they got into the act and helped us save Sissy by taking turns getting in her bed and snuggling with her. Our big orange cat, Cinnamon, even looked after Sissy once she was moving around and exploring.
Sissy grew into a loving and healthy cat. She loves to taste people food, eat cat snacks and sleep in the window. When I am home she is my shadow. When I don’t feel well she is at my side the whole time. When the family comes over she is all over them getting her loves on.
Fast forward to March 2014….there was a kindly older lady driving on the country roads making her way home. She had come to a stop and a truck went whizzing by her. Just as she was about to make her right hand turn she saw a bag come flying out of the trucks passenger side window. She pulled over to the side of the road to collect the trash they threw out; being that it was so close to her property. Only what she found in the burlap sack was not fast food wrappers or trash but a momma cat and four kittens. Sadly the impact of being thrown out the window at a fast speed killed the momma and the two male kittens. She took the two still alive kittens to the nearest vet where they were treated and looked after.
A few weeks later the kindly country lady took the two girl kittens to a foster home to grow and become loved. Than one day the foster mom was told she had too many cats and would have a few short days (30) to find new homes for all but three of her cats. If she could not find homes for 8 of them the county would come and put them in a shelter….can you say 90 days to live??? I overheard this story being told at work so I immediately asked who, what where, and before I knew it several of the kitties where in the doctor’s office and my arms where full!!
Binks, a black and white “cow cat” came up to me and right away head nudged me and licked me on my chin!! I have never had a cat lick me before but I knew I had just been picked as a new guardian. A few days later I collected this beautiful silky cow cat and it didn’t take but a day to totally make herself at home. She became a permanent member of the family and the house.
Binks is like no other cat I have ever been a guardian of. She sleeps at my shoulder and lays her head across the back of my neck. She will curl up on the arm of the chair and lean against my arm. When I put my arm around her she will lick me and rub her mouth on me. Binks has also become quite the clepto also. She will go from table to table to dresser to desk and snag all the pens she can. She also loves to “collect” hard candies with wrappers on them. I watched her one night snatch a candy and run. I followed her down to the basement and found her hiding under a chair. I tipped the chair over and could see she was laying on a stash so I picked her up to find several pens and five hard candies.
Its been 4 months since Binks came into our lives, and it truly is fun getting to know her silly personality and her love for humans even after the horrific way she was treated in the beginning. No worries Binks your home now, safe, loved cared for…..forever. – Sissy & Binks’s HuMom
